How to help student dancers achieve their goals

A coach cannot have groups “just like that”. That is, groups where students do not have goals, where they come "for themselves". And I recommended dividing the groups by age, goals and other parameters.

Age distribution is the easiest option when you are just recruiting your first students. But what about goals and objectives?

Get the groups right

First, find out the needs of the students. How to do this, I told in the article "How to understand what the student wants."

Identify students' needs, redistribute groups if necessary. The closer the goals of the students in the same group, the easier it is for you to work and for the students to achieve the goals.

For example, students were distributed by age, level and goals. The first group - beginners, 3-4 years. Parents want their children to achieve results quickly. And they see the result in winning competitions. From here, the coach sets a goal: to master three dances in 2.5 months. By the end of the quarter, enter the first competition.

Target Visualization

The coach hangs out the poster of the competition and communicates the information to all parents, that is, visualizes the goal for the parents. To achieve this goal, a schedule of classes is set - three times a week.

Also, parents should buy clothes for training and prepare costumes for the performance.

Public lesson

At the end of the first month of classes, the coach arranges an open lesson where the children show the results - two simple dances. After this open lesson, the coach announces that children can also study individually to show even better results in the competition. For children who are lagging behind the general level of the group, individual lessons can be strongly recommended.

A month later, the coach arranges a second open lesson, where he presents three competitive dances. Those who are not yet engaged in individual training are reminded of additional preparation for the competition.

Entry to the competition

A week before the tournament, a general run is arranged in competitive costumes.

Thus, the group goes step by step towards the goal - quickly achieves results and enters the first competition.

After the competition, the cycle repeats.

In my experience, the best time for such preparation is from 1.5 to 2.5 months. The first tournament should be held with the best possible preparation.

The same principle should be observed in other groups, with other goals: staging a group number, twine, performance at an event. The main thing is to repeat the cycles to achieve the result, conduct new monitoring and adjust the goals in accordance with the expectations of students and their parents.
