Groups or individual dance lessons

The main question of novice teachers is: how much of the total number of classes in the coach's schedule should be group lessons, and how many individual lessons.

Group lessons

"Group" - the most common form of conducting classes. At school and university, group forms include a lecture, a seminar, a lesson. By “group lesson” is meant the form when the teacher works with more than three people at the same time.

In a group form, it is not customary to work with someone separately. The coach always focuses on the majority. Without regular groups and sets, you are unlikely to increase the number of students. As the number of individual lessons will not increase. Always work on the number of students in groups.

Personal lessons

An individual (personal) lesson is a lesson with 1-2 students. This lesson provides an individual approach. And this is perhaps the most effective form for many dance styles. Especially if you plan to participate in solo or pair competitions and performances.

To work in personal classes, the trainer develops a program individually for each student. The goal is to achieve maximum performance for the student.

How to distribute lessons in the timetable

There are many options for the distribution of groups and individuals in the schedule.

To begin with, you must be aware that by specializing in 1-2 dance directions, you can only recruit a certain number of groups per day. Do not dream about how you will single-handedly lead group lessons from morning to evening seven days a week. This is not possible just because you need rest. The normal schedule is an 8-hour work day, 40 hours a week, rest on weekends.

Let's do a simple calculation.

Let's say one group works out 3 hours a week. To fill 30 hours, you need to complete 13-14 groups. If there are 8-10 people in each group, then in total you should recruit 104-140 people.

It is not simple. In more than 20 years of practice, I have not seen such a busyness with any teacher. Hence the conclusion: the hours when you are not leading groups and want to earn extra money should be filled with individual lessons.

I believe that the correct ratio of groups to individuals is 40/60%. That is, you lead 3-4 groups a day, and the rest of the time you work individually.

This ratio gives the best results both in terms of profit and creativity. You will be able to devote time to almost all the students, keep yourself busy and not overwork due to the number of groups.

If you want to earn more and give your students maximum attention, you can increase the number of individual lessons at the expense of days off.

Incorrect schedule alerts

When the number of group lessons is less than 20% of the total number of lessons, this is already a bad trend. Most likely, you have a problem with the set. Well, or you are a teacher of a very high class with an excellent reputation.

But if you really have problems with group recruitment, this is a signal that there will be no individual lessons soon.

The number of students is an indicator of the success of the coach, the level of his image. Create a great image for yourself, get as many people as possible to know about it, and there will be no end to the students!
