How to stay productive while working remotely

For many professionals, the ability to work from home is a nice bonus that an employer provides. But what if remote work became a necessity and you've never worked from home before? It's very likely that you're worried about whether you'll be able to maintain your productivity. We will help you prepare for remote work and continue to perform your duties as successfully as in the office.

Get up early

While you may very likely want to sleep in and turn on your computer just a few minutes before the start of your work day, you will feel better if you wake up early. On a typical working day, getting ready for work, you gradually wake up, and when you come to the office, you are most likely already ready to start your duties. Do not deprive your body of this opportunity to wake up: even when you work from home - get up at least 30 minutes before the start of the working day, perform your morning rituals and you will not have to fight sleepiness while sitting at the computer.

Set up a separate workspace

Just because you're not physically in the office doesn't mean you shouldn't have your own mini-office at home. We recommend creating a separate work area - preferably at a table, not on a couch or bed. Of course, the opportunity to work in a warm bed may seem very tempting, but in this way you will be more inclined to relax rather than work, and it will be much more difficult for you to focus on your work responsibilities and successfully cope with them.

Leave pajamas in the bedroom

What could be nicer than the opportunity to work in pajamas! We can't help but agree - this type of clothing is really comfortable, but since pajamas are designed for sleeping and relaxing, this can set you up for thoughts of relaxation, not work. And this is not at all what you need at the moment. The clothes you wear also affect how you feel and behave. Therefore, to stay productive and in the mood for work, we recommend choosing, for example, jeans and a T-shirt. In such clothes you will feel comfortable enough, but they will not send “signals” to the brain that it is time to lie down on the couch.

Inform others

If you do not live alone, be sure to tell your loved ones (spouse, sister, brother, children, roommates, etc.) that you will be working from home. If you have children, explain to them that working from home does not mean that you are at home “full-time” and that you cannot spend as much time with them as on weekends, since you must first fulfill your work responsibilities . For the convenience of the whole family, you can enter a system - for example, from 9.00 to 12.00 You are not available because you work. From 12.00 to 13.00 you have a lunch break that you can spend with your loved ones. If part of your work is online conferences, be sure to alert the family, tell the time of the calls and remind them to be quiet and not disturb you during this time.

Don't forget about breaks

While in the office, you are unlikely to work continuously, so do not forget about short breaks from time to time when working from home. Make a cup of coffee in the kitchen, have lunch or spend some time with your family. Short breaks will help you relax, and then get back to work with renewed vigor.

Accept new circumstances

Office and home environments are different, so it may take you a few days to get used to the new conditions. Instead of trying to do everything the same as you used to do at the office, try to find the best rhythm to cope with work responsibilities at home. And remember: there are times when companies have to adapt to new circumstances in a limited period of time, namely remote work. There may be times when things don't go as smoothly as you're used to. However, teamwork and team spirit will help to cope with any difficulties.
