Vacation etiquette: 6 things to do before going on vacation

A little more and you will turn off your computer: the vacation will begin. But while you are not yet in a non-working mood, you should think about not only vacation plans, but also how to fully enjoy their implementation. We offer you to get acquainted with the vacation etiquette - what you should definitely do before the start of the vacation.

Warn in advance

Don't forget to tell your colleagues before you go on vacation. If your work responsibilities include communication with clients, it is worth notifying them in advance. The best time to report a vacation is 1-2 weeks before it starts. It is especially important to do this well in advance if you cannot be contacted by phone or e-mail during your holiday.

Plan your work ahead

Make a list of the most important tasks that you definitely need to complete before the holidays. Then make every effort to complete these tasks on time. You may have to work a day or two longer, but the extra effort will translate into peace of mind during your vacation - you won't have to worry about unfinished business or, even worse, spend your vacation dealing with tails.

Agree on a connection

With a wide range of smart devices these days, you can be connected anywhere, anytime – and it’s only natural for you to negotiate with your boss and colleagues about how and how much you can be contacted while on vacation. Unfortunately, not all professions allow you to completely “disconnect” from business and not check e-mail, however, in most cases, you can agree on a special “communication schedule” - for example, check e-mail every couple of days or respond only to urgent messages.

Leave directions

If a colleague is expected to replace you in whole or in part during the vacation, we recommend that you leave instructions for him on how to carry out your tasks. Take some time to compile a document that will show you step by step how to perform the most difficult tasks - with illustrative examples if necessary. This will significantly reduce the likelihood that colleagues during the holidays will call you with questions about how to perform a particular task.

Compose an automatic email reply

You probably don't want to come back from vacation to read messages complaining about not answering emails. Compose an automatic email response in her settings that briefly states that you are currently on vacation and a return date. If necessary, also indicate the contact person with whom the addressee can contact in your absence.

Enjoy your vacation

Everyone needs to take a break from work and take a break from time to time, so use your vacation for this purpose. If you spend your entire vacation at a computer or with a phone in your hand, this will not be a full-fledged vacation. Tune in to rest, let yourself relax, convince yourself that you deserve this vacation - so that later you can return to work with renewed vigor.
