Betting on dog racing is an entertainment that can bring profit. Bets are accepted at hippodromes in Great Britain, the USA and Australia, but you can also play in Russian betting shops. In this article, we will analyze the types of greyhound racing bets, how to make them and how to analyze them.
Types of bets on greyhound racing
There are seven main types of greyhound racing bets.
- Bet on the winner of the race (win only). The bet wins if the selected dog reaches the finish line first.
- Bet on a prize place (show). A bet on the dog that will take the prize. If the rules of the bookmaker indicate that the prizes are from the first to the third, the place only bet is available in the line. This is a bet that the selected dog will take first or second place.
- Forecast - betting on dogs that finish the race first and second.
- Trio or Triffecta - A bet on three dogs finishing first, second and third.
- Supertriffecta - a bet on the sequence of the first four participants in the race.
- Two twists bet - a bet on two dogs that will come to the finish line first. The finishing sequence does not matter, unlike the forecast rate.
- Lay - the bet will go if the selected dog does not finish first.
- Other special bets: on the winners of two adjacent races or that the selected dog will win two races in a row, and so on.
How to bet on dog races
The human factor is minimized in dog racing bets. For example, as in horse racing, where a lot depends on the jockey.
Before a greyhound gets into boxing, it passes a doping control. To make a successful bet, you need to understand this sport. Beginners need to consider a number of factors to increase their chances of success.
- Distance and class of races. The higher the race class, the higher the competition. Understand the specialization of race dogs. That is, in how a particular dog performs at different distances.
- box number. Consider whether your favorite will run in the outer or inner circle. Running on the inside minimizes the collision factor with other runners. Some greyhounds, on the other hand, perform better on the outer circle.
- Intervals between runs. This factor affects the optimal shape of the greyhound. If a dog is in the box three races apart, it may not be able to show its best result. Although the trainer must understand when his greyhound is at the peak of his form.
- Weather. Sunny weather increases the chances of favorites, and when it rains, outsiders often take advantage of the favorite's misfire.
Dog Racing Betting Strategies
- Bet on the favorite to win the race with odds in the range of 1.40-1.90 under ideal weather conditions.
- Play against the favorites of the race. For example, a Lay bet, in case of bad weather, according to the Martingale strategy.
- Take the underdog in a fixed profit strategy if the favorite is running for the second time in a row or if they have run more than five runs in a day.
- Bet on dogs running closer to the inner circle with the best speed performance in short distance races.
- Check the greyhound's victory in the middle distance if it performs well in the long distance races.
- Bet that an outsider will take the podium in steeplechase dogs if he has competed in long distance races before.
