The Church of Feodosius of Pechersky is an architectural monument, built in the Ukrainian Baroque style near the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra at the end of the 17th century. It is located outside the Lavra walls, but belongs to the Lavra and the reserve. It was built in honor of one of the founders of the monastery, Feodosius Pecherskyi.

At present, the church belongs to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.

History

The church was built in 1698-1700 at the expense of Cossack colonel Konstantin Mokievsky on the site of a wooden church built in the first half of the 17th century. The temple belonged to the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. After the construction of the Pechersk fortress, the church came under the control of the diocesan leadership.

In 1830, the church was surrounded by buildings and a brick fence with a gate.

During the Second World War, the church was badly damaged by fire. Restoration works were carried out in the 1960s. A new iconostasis was installed in the church.

Architecture

According to its type, the building belongs to Ukrainian three-chambered churches and ends with three tall baths. The facades are decorated in the Ukrainian Baroque style. The northern and southern facades each have three elongated window openings, images of saints were placed above them. There are small windows in two tiers, decorated with complex platbands and triangular sandrikas. The painting in the church was not preserved.
