Belarusian mythological tale about Lizun is common on the North-Eastern land of Vitebsk region and nearby russian Pskov region. He is depicted like white scarecrow, with height of a finger, with long tongue like a grater capable of licking a naughty child to blood. He lives in well or garden and it is a warning for a child not to drown in the well or lost in the garden. Moreover, when baby cries, adults said: «Calm down, sweetheart, or you will be licked by Lizun». Ethnographer Volodymyr Dobrovolskyy thought that Lizun is a definition of fire, following the words: «Don't
come close to the oven: Lizun will lick you by red tongue». Probably his role in chlid's home education increased because after some time parents started to warn their kids not only about ovens but about other dangerous situations, where a child can suffer. It explains why Lizun is so small, when kids got burnt by oven which is white — Lizun was invisible because he merged with the same oven. Then children were frightened by parents that Lizun can drown you into well, also he sits in the gardens and if he will lick you to bleeding — no doctor would help.Generations of Belarusians were educated in this way. Their rich imagination helps them to teach and warn kids, it is visible in restraint and obedience of people.
