How to bet on biathlon

Winter sports fans can bet on biathlon. Biathlon cannot be called a popular sport, it is not among the ten most watched disciplines, but every year it attracts more and more spectators.

In terms of forecasting, biathlon is more interesting than its analogues at the Winter Olympics. In addition to ski runs, biathlon racing includes shooting, which adds an extra element of randomness to tournament results. For each miss, judges add a penalty minute to the athletes in addition to the usual time for passing the distance. Biathletes with the highest percentage of hits on the target often win races.

Categories of biathlon races

There are several categories in biathlon racing:
  • private race - an individual marathon at a distance of 12.5 miles for men and 9.0 miles for women, athletes compete over five laps with four firing lines, on the second and fourth shooting takes place standing, on the first and third - from a prone position;
  • relay race - each relay team consists of four biathletes, each of them passes the firing lines in the standing and lying positions; for women, the distance is 6 km, for men - 7.5 km;
  • pursuit race - according to the results of the sprint race, biathletes start from the point where they finished the sprint, the length of the women's biathlon race is 10 km, the men's race is 12 km, the number of firing lines is 4;
  • sprint - a category of race in biathlon, includes a distance of 7.5 km for women and 10 for men; biathletes shoot at two firing lines and go through three laps, for misses, athletes go through penalty loops about 150 m long, which takes from 22 to 25 seconds to overcome;
  • mass start - according to the results of the World Cup stage, 30 best biathletes participate in the biathlon mass start at 10 km for women and 12 km for men.

Betting Tips

Experienced bettors advise beginners to analyze the determining factors before betting on a biathlon race:
  • The current form is to study the shooting statistics of athletes over the last six or seven starts, to understand how well the athlete feels the rifle at the moment.
  • Motivation forces a biathlete to cover the distance at the maximum possible, saving every second - to study the overall standings.
  • Changes in the personal life of an athlete - follow the news in the media.
  • Home or away races - follow the careers of athletes and training locations.
  • Weather conditions affect the speed of athletes and the accuracy of shooting - view the forecasts on the eve of the starts.
When betting on a biathlon event, professional bettors prefer to bet on riders who are in the first half of the starting list if the snow levels have increased before the race. By the beginning of the second half of the protocol, the track will be damaged - the speed of the participants starting later will decrease.
